search terms with accent marks

Postby slavinp » Tue Jan 22, 2013 11:21 am

Is there a way to configure the search settings so that Archon recognizes the letter 'a' with an accent mark over it as equaling a plain letter 'a'? For example, someone searching for the last name "Sanchez" (no accent mark) would currently not find results if "Sanchez" has an accent mark over the 'a' in our collection page. Same issue with an accent over the letter 'e' or a tilde over the letter 'n.' (Of course, we could simply not use accent marks on our end in the first place, but we have already done so in the past, not realizing until now that we would run into this issue.)
Thanks.

We've ran into this problem as well with Norwegian characters (ø, å, æ) and I don't have an answer for you. What we've done as a small workaround is listing the word (in most cases, a name) without accents in their creator record under variant name. See example: http://nordic.luther.edu/index.php?p=cr ... tor&id=318
