On behalf of Genie Guerard and the steering committee of the Archivists' Toolkit Roundtable, we would like to encourage you to attend the AT Roundtable Meeting, which will be held Wednesday Aug 11th, 1-3pm, at the SAA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.
Please read Genie's message below, which is self-explanatory. We would only add that the sentiments she expresses (in favor of building a collegial network and encouraging dialog with the members of the ArchivesSpace planning grant) are particularly welcome and generous. In addition, please note carefully that the AT Roundtable is seeking to revise its mission and is looking for 'ex officio' members of the steering committee, to represent Archon users, until such time as the mission change is complete.
We strongly encourage all of you to attend what I am sure will be a very productive and fruitful meeting.
Chris Prom and Scott Schwartz
Archon co-project directors
We would like the Archon community to know that they are invited and encouraged to attend the AT Roundtable meeting. Their participation is essential to the success of the roundtable's mission to serve the community of archivists who are currently using the Archon and AT collection management tools. We aspire to build a network of colleagues who can learn from one another, and as the ArchivesSpace initiative moves forward, to keep an active, open dialogue with the development team.
Our goal for the business section of the meeting is to present a revised mission and goal statement that will unite, and likely rename the roundtable, to reflect the AT/Archon integration. Given the election cycle, we will propose keeping the steering committee as is until we can hold online elections (about a month prior to the 2011 roundtable meeting). However, if one or two or three Archon users would be willing to volunteer to work with the steering committee, we would like to extend that invitation to create a better balance in the interim.
The agenda for the roundtable meeting can be found on the SAA AT Roundtable website, and is pasted below: http://www2.archivists.org/groups/atrt
The Archivists' Toolkit Roundtable of the Society of American Archivists will hold its annual meeting on Wednesday, Aug 11th, 1-3pm, at the SAA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.
Established in February 2009, the Archivists' Toolkit Roundtable (ATRT) provides a forum for archivists from all types of repositories to identify and discuss key issues relevant to the Archivists' Toolkit (AT) software tool. The ArchivesSpace planning project is under way, with the expectation that through the collaborative efforts of AT and Archon's development teams, a new collection management tool will emerge. We invite a discussion of the AT Roundtable's role in facilitating collaboration between AT and Archon users and the ArchivesSpace team.
An update on the status of ArchivesSpace will be given by the planning team, who will also be present for Q&A. Presentations and announcements will extend the inaugural meeting's theme of community development and resource sharing. The event will offer a meeting space where we can share and benefit from the knowledge and expertise of archivists, which will facilitate the development of an archival management tool whose features and functions best serve the user community.
ATRT - revised name, mission and goals (draft to be circulated in advance of mtg via ATRT forum.) Steering Cmte will propose a timeframe for submitting revisions.
